MSt in Celtic Studies

Inside the Taylor InstitutionThis course is designed to offer a wide range of subjects, including Archaeology, Art, History and Law in addition to Language and Literature, with the opportunity to concentrate on the study of aspects of the history and culture of Celtic peoples from antiquity to the present day. The subjects taught are in four groups:

  1. Historical and Comparative Celtic Linguistics
  2. Irish Literature up to the Cromwellian Wars
  3. Welsh Literature up to the Reformation
  4. Special Subjects

The MSt or MPhil might be an appropriate introduction for students wishing to write a DPhil thesis within the area of Celtic Studies.

The thesis is on a subject chosen by the student.

Numbers are small and this allows the teaching to be tailored to the particular choice a student makes. It is done through a mixture of classes and tutorials. It is expected that candidates for this course will have some knowledge of at least one Celtic language before they begin.
